Color Superconductivity in Dense Quark Matter
A brief introduction into the properties of dense quark matter is given. Recently proposed gapless color superconducting phases of neutral and betaequilibrated dense quark matter are discussed. The current status in the field is described, and the promising directions of the future research are outlined.

We review what is different and what is similar in a color superconductor as compared to an ordinary BCS superconductor. The parametric dependence of the zero-temperature gap, φ0, on the coupling constant differs in QCD from that in BCS theory. On the other hand, the transition temperature to the superconducting phase, Tc, is related to the zero-temperature gap in the same way in QCD as in BCS ...
متن کاملColor superconductivity in dense quark matter
Matter at high density and low temperature is expected to be a color superconductor, which is a degenerate Fermi gas of quarks with a condensate of Cooper pairs near the Fermi surface that induces color Meissner effects. At the highest densities, where the QCD coupling is weak, rigorous calculations are possible, and the ground state is a particularly symmetric state, the color-flavor locked (C...
متن کاملColor superconductivity in ultra-dense quark matter
At ultra-high density, matter is expected to form a degenerate Fermi gas of quarks in which there is a condensate of Cooper pairs of quarks near the Fermi surface. This phenomenon is called color superconductivity. In these proceedings I review the underlying physics of color superconductivity and our current understanding of the possible phases of real-world quark matter. Then I consider how l...
متن کاملColor superconductivity and dense quark matter
The properties of cold and dense quark matter have been the subject of extensive investigation, especially in the last decade. Unfortunately, we still lack of a complete understanding of the properties of matter in these conditions. One possibility is that quark matter is in a color superconducting phase which is characterized by the formation of a diquark condensate. We review some of the basi...
